Looking back on my previous trip to Cali, I realized that I energetically set myself up to be out of alignment at least a week prior to my adventure. Although I had a magnificent time, my digestion, rest, and stamina were out of balance during the whole duration, and I wasn't able to be as present as I would've like to. From an Ayurvedic perspective, my vata dosha (the ether and air elements) was in excess. Vata rules the nervous system, and is increased by movement, chaos, irregularity, stress, travel, and not getting adequate sleep... which exactly describes the energy leading up to and during my trip. The night before my friend and I flew out of Tampa, I closed up at work, packed everything at the last minute, drove my car almost on empty to my friend's, and slept for only a couple hours before heading to the airport. So, it's no wonder we missed our 6am flight! Luckily there was another flight to LA later on that day, so we were able to extend our trip and make the necessary arrangements. Even in California, we were constantly on the go, exploring new towns, hiking, surfing, etc. (more vata, with some pitta energy of action and planning everything to a T). It was a blast, but my energy reserves were low, and we hardly had any down time. We'd go to bed fairly late and wake up early every morning.
What I struggled with the most was my bloating and digestion (also a vata imbalance). Any kind of travel increases the air and ether elements, so it's natural for the body to feel this way for a day or so, but my imbalance lasted the entire trip. Being bloated was quite uncomfortable and distracting, and it really took away from enjoying the present moment. This disconnect I felt within reflected outwards, as if the chaos in my mind was mirroring the chaos in my digestive system. I remember feeling super frustrated and insecure. Here I am in this beautiful place, yet I am unable to enjoy it to the fullest extent because I've been ignoring my body's wisdom. I was mad at myself, because deep down I knew better. My kapha dosha (water and earth elements) kept telling me to ground, rest, and relax, but I was too excited to slow down-- and we had so much to do. I unfortunately had to pay the consequences.
So for my Colorado trip, I decided to get my shit together a couple weeks before departure. I made sure I slept well, took the necessary supplements for gut health and immunity, consumed enough water, did yoga every night, and had a day of pampering before my flight. I realized I had to truly take care of myself from the inside out, in order to fully show up as my highest and best self for vacation (but we should be doing this every day, too!) Self-care for the mind, body and spirit baby!
I started my day off by receiving the most amazing reiki treatment by my dear friend Rachel, which was incredibly insightful and healing. Rachel aligned my charkas, sewed my aura back together, and gave me a very much needed cellular upgrade. I honestly felt like a whole new person afterwards, and I highly recommend her if you are in need of some energy work! You'll be vibing high for days, feeling straight up blissful. Following my session, I got a mani and pedi, because it's relaxing and it makes me happy. I'm always on my feet, so I needed some extra love and grounding before heading up into the clouds. After that, I was ready to go! I made sure my earth energy was strong this time around (also my fire too, for the self-discipline and structure to do so), and it made all the difference. When you take care of yourself, your body takes care of you.
Since I set myself up for success, I felt aligned, confident, and empowered af during my Colorado trip. I was really in tune with what my body needed, which made me all the more joyful, alive, and present. We hiked, relaxed in the hot springs, went skiing, cooked family meals, did yoga, drank ginger tea, played games, sunbathed naked on the balcony, and explored the city of Denver. It was the perfect balance of rest and play, and all three of my doshas were flowing together in harmony.
I am extremely grateful that I paid attention to my own inner wisdom. I can be easily persuaded to follow what others want to do, but I am learning to listen to my intuition a lot more and it's made a huge difference in how I feel. It takes constant mindfulness, but it's so worth it once you are in alignment. I also realized that it's okay to not have something scheduled at every moment during vacation. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow while also making time for what excites you. Find your version of balance, trust yourself, and really listen to what your body is telling you. I promise life is more expansive once you do! Your vibration comes back to you, as you are what you attract.
